HOW TO JOIN TSLSC

You are welcome to join Tamarama SLSC as a patrolling member (Bronze Medallion required) or an associate (non-patrolling) member. To join, please download the attached form. Please post payment and Application Forms to:

Tamarama SLSC, Club Secretary, PO Box 113 Waverley 2024 or email secretary@tamaramaslsc.com.

Payment for courses is required prior to commencing courses, and includes:

  • all training + materials for Bronze Medallion / Cert II course.
  • 2 years Senior Active membership @ Tamarama SLSC
  • patrol uniforms

HOW DO I PAY?

You can pay using the following options:

  • CHEQUE: made out to Tamarama SLSC, Club Secretary, PO Box 113 Waverley 2024
  • * ELECTRONIC FUNDS TRANSFER (EFT)*: Please ensure that you:
    - electronically identify your payment as "BMpayment-" , eg: BMpayment-PeterQuinn
    - post a copy of the receipt and your membership application form to the postal address above.
    - maintain a copy of the receipt for your records.

BRONZE MEDALLION COURSE

If you wish to join Tamarama SLSC as a patrolling member, you'll need be a holder of a Bronze Medallion.

COURSE OFFERED:

Bronze Medallion/Certificate II ( Aquatic Safety)

PREREQUISITES:

  • aged 15 and over 
  • complete a 400m pool swim in under 9 minutes ( essential! )

LEARN:

  • surf skills + awareness
  • surf rescue skills
  • emergency first aid & resuscitation
  • how to create a safer beach environment for our community

BENEFITS:

  • improve your fitness + surf skills
  • become a valued part of a friendly + supportive team.
  • use club equipment: racing boards, surf skis, surf boats, gym
  • group training for surf swimming, rowing, surf skis.
  • compete in surf club carnivals

COURSE DATES:

  • NEXT COURSE STARTS: Sunday October (date TBC), 2008 ( Swim Time Trial: 12pm @ Bondi Icebergs Pool, followed by welcome + induction).
  • DURATION: 9 weeks, with a training commitment of 6+ hours per week required.
  • TRAINING DAYS: Tuesdays 6.30-9.00pm ( theory class) and Saturdays 8am-12.00pm (water skills )
  • MOCK EXAMS: one week priot to exams.
  • EXAM DATES: Part A Exam ( Theory) - TBC / Part B Exam ( Practical ) - TBC

  • Candidates are request to commit to attending 2 classes each week.
  • Absence from more than 2 classes is likely to disqualify candidates from sitting their exam.
  • Withdrawals during the course disrupts team cohesion and precludes other interested candidates.
  • Refunds are only given in the event of verifiable medical conditions within the first 2 weeks of the course and provisional on all course material first being returned to TSLSC

TIMED SWIM

  • It is essential that all candidates passe their timed swim ( 400m in 9 minutes ) by Jan 13th at latest.
  • If you're unable to make this date, it's your responsibility to organise a solo timed swim @ Icebergs with Matt Caine.
  • Remember he is not obliged to do this, so please ask him nicely if he'll help you out.

Q. AM I REQUIRED TO PRE-PAY BEFORE THE BM COURSE/ SWIM TIME TRIAL STARTS?
A. Yes. And pre-paid candidates get preference in being admitted in the event the squad is oversubscribed.

Q. WHAT ARE MY PATROL RESPONSIBILITIES IF DECIDE TO BECOME AN ACTIVE LIFE SAVER @ TAMA?
A. Generally one 4-5 hour patrol every 3-4 weeks. The more members we have, the lighter the patrol time required.

Q. IF YOU HAVE A SURPLUS OF CANDIDATES FOR THE BRONZE CLASS, WHO GETS PRIORITY?
A. We give preference to candidates who:
- are committed to becoming ongoing activel patrol members.
- pre-pay their membership fees.
Tama is a small club and needs the patrol manpower to save lives.

Q. WHAT HAPPENS AT THE SWIM TIME TRIALS FOR BRONZE MEDALLION CANDIDATES?
A. Candidates who swim 400m in:
- under 9 minutes are accepted into the BM course.
- under 9 minutes 10 secs may be given a second chance to achieve under 9 mins at the sole discretion of the instructor.
- over 9 minutes 10 secs will be asked to train to get their swim time under 9 mins before re-applying.
- candidates unsuccessful in their timed swim will be fully refunded their fees.

Q. WHO IS ENTITLED FOR "CONCESSION" BM FEES?
A. Only full time students, unemployed or pensioners are entitled.

Q. HOW MUCH ARE "CONCESSION" BM FEES?
A. Please refer to "COST" table above.

Q. What if I want to join and I already have a Bronze Medallion?
A. Please contact Surf Life Saving Sydney (SLSS) to verify they have a record of your BM. If they don't, you will have to re-do the BM course to become an Active patrol member. Please contact SLSS on awards@surflifesavingsydney.com.au or call them on 9019 0722 for more info, <br
